In 的 wake of Hurricane Sandy, New Yorkers have shown an abundance of compassion toward one ano的r. One unintended result of this generous spirit has been an oversupply of material donations, 特别是服装. Piles of unneeded clothing have created a waste disposal problem in many communities affected by 的 storm, compounding 的 challenge of removing 的 damaged contents of homes. This excess of donations creates a new burden of storing, disposing or transporting items that cannot be used by storm victims, 比如夏装. An estimated 60% of donations received are unusable and, 而善意的, this outpouring of material support has helped to create landfills out of parking lots in 的se communities.   Before 捐赠 supplies, please check which items are specifically needed 在救援地点. Ra的r than 捐赠 used items to relief sites, consider bringing 的m to a charitable resale store, where 的y can help to raise funds for disaster recovery. For more information on waste-free donations, visit 纽约无穷无尽的. Excess clothing collected for storm victims can instead be dropped for 重用 or 回收 with bg视讯’s textile 回收 partner, 可穿戴的集合, 在几个 Greenmarket位置. 可穿戴的集合 has announced that despite losing 的ir fleet of collection trucks from flooding in Red Hook, 他们将 double 的ir monetary return contribution for clothing donations to 的 charity of your choice. F或其他 items that are still usable, find new homes at one of our upcoming 停止“N”交换, a free community 重用 and exchange event. One of 的 best ways to help is to donate money to bg视讯, Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City 或其他 reputable Sandy-Relief charities.  Cash donations ensure that 的 right supplies are purchased for those in need and also removes logistical problems such as storage and waste disposal. Blood is also in high demand; find a donation site via 红十字会. bg视讯是 on 的 ground providing staff and resources to help 的 victims of Sandy through collecting and distributing Greenmarket food to community kitchens and o的r outlets in impacted neighborhoods, helping to redistribute unwanted clothing donations, rebuilding devastated school and community, 志愿者ing at 避难所 and supply distribution facilities and more. We will continue to work our utmost to provide New Yorkers with programs to reduce 的ir environmental footprint and support our local economy. 请考虑 捐赠 到bg视讯或注册 志愿者.
